About the House HYLA architects specialise in making spacious homes feel roomy and private. They often turn their attention inward, with composed courtyards or artistic staircases. No. 13 welcomes natural light and ventilation. Members can gaze up at the sky or enjoy a meal beside the pond. The light falling on the red dragon-esque staircase, turning it into a true work of art. HYLA imagined a Red Dragon coming out of the pond and arching towards the sky. A suspended, angular staircase hovers over the kitchen as an elegant juxtaposition. Once inside, you’ll find clean lines and a muted palette of whites and greys. Peeking around further, you’ll find a large pond and a red central spiral staircase. The ground floor features an open living room that leads to the dining room, with an island kitchen dividing the two areas. This unit is part of our Lor 24A Shophouse Series, where 7 architects were paired with 8 conservation shophouses. The historically-rich façades were preserved, as well as interior features like timber floorboards, joists, and peepholes. Each one of our shophouses exudes a different personality and presents a distinct experience.
