About the House Featuring a monolithic lap pool on the ground floor, FARM’s design emphasises the unique experience of shophouse living. Stepping inside Alexandra House immediately gives you the feeling that you are in a different place. You are greeted by the long spaciousness of the ground floor and will feel the natural light streaming in through the skylight above. Walking along the staircase, you are guided from the front to the rear of the house and back to the front again. It gives continuity to the spaces, and as you travel along the stairs, you experience different parts of the home. For the common living and dining areas, we chose statement pieces that become focal points in each space. They’re also curved and organic, in contrast to the linearity and strong lines in the home. This unit is part of our Lor 24A Shophouse Series, where 7 architects were paired with 8 conservation shophouses. The historically-rich façades were preserved, as well as interior features like timber floorboards, joists, and peepholes. Each one of our shophouses exudes a different personality and presents a distinct experience.
